In Britain and Northern Ireland it is illegial to watch live television without a licence from the state-sponsored British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC). No institution has done more than this BBC to protect and promote the privileges of the Windsor clan, and to delay the day of our freedom from monarchy.

"The BBC will honour any such embargo (on reporting a Windsor death), regardless of what other broadcasters do." At least until the death of Elizabeth Windsor's mother in 2002 that was the deferential policy of the BBC.
