Britain’s state church carries out exorcisms but does not know how many children it has exorcised, according to a report by the National Secular Society (NSS).
The exorcisms are called “rites of deliverance” and are intended to cast out demons.
The NSS arranged for a questions about these “rites” to be asked in the House of Commons. However, the Church’s representative in the House was unable to say how many “rites” had been conducted in the last ten years or how many had been on children.
Although the church has banned gay conversion therapy one parish has paid a five figure sum in an out of court settlement with a man who underwent a gay conversion exorcism.
The man was told that his “sexual impurity” had allowed demons to enter his body, according to the NSS.
