Highways England has spent £216,513 on behalf of the Wales Office for new signs for a bridge renamed to honour Charlie Windsor according to Wales Online. Mr Windsor will become head of state when his mother dies.

The bridge that links Wales to England was renamed for Mr Windsor in 2018. At the time Leanne Wood, leader of Plaid Cymru, asked whether the decision was an April Fools day joke.

Following the disclosure of the cost of new signs for the bridge she said “This vanity project proposed by sycophants in the Welsh Office, backed up by ‘cap-doffers’ in the Welsh Government, will no doubt earn them more establishment brownie points but what real, practical purpose does it serve?”

A petition against the change of name was signed by 38,000 people. A renaming ceremony attended by Mr Windsor was not publicised.
