Liz Windsor’s annual income from the Duchy of Lancaster has reached a new high of £20.18m, an increase of £1m over the previous year.
Windsor is the UK’s super-rich hereditary head of state.
The Duchy is a portfolio of public assets worth £534m the profits from which are paid to Windsor. The profits increased last year by £1.4m. This income is in addition to her family’s £47m take from the Crown Estate, another portfolio of public assets..
The Lancaster duchy assets include 45,600 acres of land including some in London. The Duchy is also allowed to take the proceeds of the estates of people who die intestate in parts of England and Wales.
