Duchy Under Attack

But Windsor Looting Set to Continue

The financial privileges of the Windsor clan came under unusual attack this Monday in a Channel 4 Despatches report.

The program focused on the tax-exempt status of the Duchy of Cornwall, which gives Charles Windsor around £12m in spending money every year. It also reported criticism of the Duchy for putting profit before environmental or community benefits.

However, Despatches did not question the merit of giving such a huge amount of the people’s money to Windsor in return for the accident of birth that makes him the son of queen Windsor. Nor did it make perfectly clear that the Duchy belongs to the people, not the Windsor clan. It stated that Windsor owned the Duchy’s properties, at the same time as reporting a contrary legal ruling that the Duchy is a public body.

The Parliamentary Accounts Committee will be examining the Duchy’s tax avoidance. But there is no sign that the British people will any time soon stop the Windsors looting public money.

The Duchy of Cornwall is a holding of property and other investments. The similar but smaller Duchy of Lancaster feeds the avarice of Elizabeth Windsor.
