New Legislators for UK – But The Hands of the People Are Tied

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Thirty one new legislators are soon to take seats in the UK legislature. But none of them were chosen by the people. And the people will be unable to remove them. They will serve until they die and will be accountable to no one.

The new legislators are so-called Lords and sit in the House of Lords. They were nominated for their seats in the legislature by the three largest political parties.

Some have made large financial donations to the Conservative Party and their appointment is believed to be a reward for those donations. The Labour Party condemned this but did not find fault with the principal of appointment of legislators.

David Cameron has created 183 legislators-for-life since becoming Prime Minister. The House of Lords is reported to be so packed with them that there is not enough space.
