A Freedom of Information Act disclosure has revealed that 3.5m people have have cancelled their licence to watch television since 2013.
However, the BBC claims that despite these cancellations more people than ever have paid for its permission to watch TV.

It is not clear to what extent the cancellations are the result of disapproval of the licensing system, dissatisfaction with the the TV programmes broadcast, or switching to streaming services such as Netflix.
