British Insulted By “Pleb”

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

The use of the term “pleb” by a senior British politician to refer to a police officer with whom he had an argument has caused widespread anger in Britain.

Most British people accept that the office of head of state should be reserved for individuals deemed to be “royal”. They accept the inheritance by “nobles” of seats in the legislature. They refer to other citizens as “My Lady”, “Your Royal Highness” etc. But they object to being referred to as “plebeian”.
