Scotland May Claim Crown Estate

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Following its success in the elections for the Scottish Parliament the Scottish National Party (SNP) is expected to follow up on its wish for that Parliament to take control of the Crown Estate in Scotland.
The Estate consists of vast property holdings including the seabed around Britain. The Windsor family believe this is theirs by hereditary right although the income is paid to the state. The income is expected to increase greatly if more wind farms are built, as the Estate would be paid a fee for the right to run cables from the wind farm to shore.
It the SNP goes ahead with it claim this could further weaken the Windsors’ claim on the national wealth, particularly if Scotland does become independent.
