BBC Bans “Reform”

The BBC has ordered its staff not to use the term “electoral reform” according to the Yes To Fairer Votes Council. The Council says it has seen an internal Corporation document that gives this instruction. There is to be referendum in May on whether to reform the way votes are counted in British elections.

The Council, which supports reform, claims that “The BBC was bullied into this position by the old guard rallying behind the old politics – a deliberate attempt by a cynical elite to confuse the voters with misleading and inappropriate language.”

The state broadcaster, which controls access to TV by British citizens, has a long history of opposition to democratic reform.
